Lesbians? (Scott Pilgrim reference)

These are some of the words that I can think of to associate with the lens I got on Thursday. I obtained a Canon 24-105mm F/4L IS USM from DigitalRev along with a UV filter for protection.
I chose this lens because for a number of reasons. It has image stabilisation with a good zoom range which is useful for video as well as photos. I found that taking video handheld with non IS lenses were very shaky. It is an L lens which means it is solid, weatherproof and has great image quality. It is also full frame compatible so if I upgrade my camera in the future to a full frame, I will have a pretty good lens to go with it. Finally, it was one of the "cheapest" L lenses I could get (it costed the same as my DSLR).
When I pulled it from the box, it was quite solid and hefty compared previous lenses I had. The Sigma 24-70mm F/2.8 might have been a similar weight but this Canon lens feels so much better even though it is made of plastic too. The plastic on this lens feels more solid compared to the Sigma. The weight makes the set front heavy when attached to the body. The autofocus is really quick and silent but in live view mode, it is noticeably slower and sometimes hunts a bit compared to the 40mm STM lens I have.
I took it out yesterday to get a few sample shots and some fresh air.

Definitely not a morning person...and I don't know how to do these self -cam shots. |

People keep spraying over each other's graffiti on this wall. Always changing like TV channels. |

I will probably do this when I'm working one day. |

Eventually came back to the city to pick up some cosmetics my mum ordered.

Taken with the touchscreen shutter. I find it to be a bit hit or miss, especially for moving objects. It might do better with my 40mm STM lens. |

So far, I found the lens to be a great piece of kit managing to perform in a wide range of situations. The wide angle is useful for landscapes and buildings while the telephoto is great for portraits and some wildlife shots. It wasn't extremely heavy for the few hours I was carrying it. I wonder how much heavier the popular Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L would be. Image stabilisation is definitely one of the best things about this lens as it neutralises my shaky hands. I miss image stabilisation from my previous Pentax DSLR but it seems to work heaps better when IS is inside the lens rather than the body. Hope to capture some great pictures with this lens and also some video as well.
